|I've found on the Upper West Side what I've always hoped to find in New York--a dive-y little greasy spoon that makes me feel like I'm back at home. If I moved to New York, I have no doubt that I'd be a regular in no time.
I came here with a newfound friend from BlogHer '12, who used to live on UWS, and I loved it. I ordered my standard two eggs, rye toast, hash browns, and bacon--the kind of meal that sticks with you all day. My friend opted for a bagel with a shmear of cream cheese and a slice tomato with bacon on the side. We were content with the delicious, cheap food and fast service.
THESE are the waffles I've been looking for!
Light, crisp and hot off the waffle press.
Family owned and run. Friendly, friendly, friendly. Classic cafe/diner food, good breakfast. They do not charge extra for little substitutions and they keep their iced coffee in the refrigerator, ready to go :) I like it!

As a resident, a key indicator that a local diner is good are the staff. At Utopia the same staff are always serving, they are always friendly and take a pride in getting the food to your table quickly. The coffee flows and is always freshly brewed. It's a diner serving typical diner food at reasonable prices and has a breakfast special before 11am. The food is always freshly cooked and served hot. Over easy eggs always have a soft yolk and cooked through white, the home potatoes are freshly fried. The french toast is thick and flavorsome, the waffles cooked to order and both come with a proper pot of maple syrup. Another reason why I favor Utopia is the banquette seating which means no scraping chairs nor the person behind banging into you. It a good, reliable local diner if you are near 72nd Street/Broadway.
